3D Printed Data Workshop (2017)

I taught a workshop titled 3D Printed Data - Making Your Own Data Sculpture in Processing at ITP Camp 2017, which is a 4 week crash course/playground for busy working professionals.

Below is the description of the workshop:

Create 3D forms from raw data using Processing and turn them into tangible objects using a 3D printer. We will cover how to work with data in Processing, how to 3D model based on data, and the process of turning sketch into an actual object. At the end of the class, you will get a ready-to-3d-print model of your own data. We will look at the topic of 3D printing outside the confines of 3D modeling software, enabling you to work with 3D printers in new ways.

The workshop got 5.0/5.0 ratings and the feedback comments from the participants include:
“Ms Song is very organized with her notes/lecture.”
“Very approachable but also inspirational.”

Here are some 3d printed outcomes. The red graph shows the Google Trend data on the "Trump" keyword over a year while the blue shows the corresponding data on "Hillary".
